by Mike –
This past Friday August 17, 2012 was the tenth anniversary of The Quail, A Motor Sport Gathering and one of the featured marques was Iso – celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Iso GT cars.
Piero Rivolta, the last president of Iso and the son of the founder Renzo Rivolta, was a featured guest and he was interviewed on stage by Winston Goodfellow. I have a video of this interview and I will publish portions of this interview in a later post.
There were 27 Iso cars at this wonderful gathering and I believe it is the largest gathering of Iso cars in North America and possibly the world. The very knowledgable readers of My Car Quest will let me know if this is not the case.
Iso Grifo No. 009 was the Iso class winner.
The Iso Marlboro Formula 1 race car was there as were 15 Iso Grifos (including the prototype), 6 Iso Rivolta GTs, 1 Iso Lele, 1 Iso Fidia, 1 Iso Daytona Targa, 1 Iso Grifo A3/C and the Iso Rivolta Varedo.
Sir Frank Williams managed the Iso Formula 1 team.
This Iso Rivolta GT above did race at Le Mans and is owned by Piero Rivolta.
There were only four Series 2 Targas made.
There were only thirteen Series 1 Targas made.
John Lennon bought a Fidia and Piero Rivolta helped close the sale.
The Lele is named after Piero’s wife.
This is the last Iso Grifo made by Iso, chassis No. 412.
The Varedo is owned by Piero Rivolta.
In addition to Piero Rivolta there were other celebrities in attendance.
Stephen Mitchell made the Documentary Carrera Panamericana (1950-54).
See more photos in the slide show below, there are two pages of slides.
It was a pleasure finally getting to meet you in person, Mike. Congratulations on the results you got with your car!
